Three projects under MGNREGA programme at S. Hotovi, Tokugha and Nizhevi villages under Kuhuboto RD block was inaugurated on Thursday.
The projects were inaugurated by parliamentary secretary, RD, REPA & SIRD S. Pangnyu Phom, commissioner & secretary, V. Sakhrie and director RD Metsubo Jamir. The projects include bridges at Tokugha and Nizhevi and check dam cum irrigation.
Addressing the gathering at S Hotovi village, parliamentary secretary, Pangnyu lauded the efforts of the three villages for utilizing the allocated funds in an effective way.
Reminding the people that development taking place in an area was not for others, but for the people of the area, Pangnyu pointed out the three projects would serve as an example to other RD Blocks, VDBs and villages. Stating time has come for Nagas to speak the truth socially and politically, the parliamentary secretary also impressed upon the villagers to judiciously utilize the funds allocated.
He further urged villagers not to get entangled in petty politics and ‘isms’ as it would affect the development of any village.
Underscoring the importance of development in rural areas, Pangnyu maintained that a country’s progress depended on the social and economic advancement in rural areas.
Admitting that the state government was fully dependent on the centre for funds, Pangnyu asserted the DAN government was providing a sum of `1000 per household annually in rural areas, despite the difficulties.
The parliamentary secretary also highlighted various programmes of the department including the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) which would be introduced by the year 2011.
Commissioner & Secretary, V. Sakhrie and director, Metsubo Jamir in their short speeches lauded the villagers for properly utilizing the funds and urged them to continue doing so. The visiting RD team also included project director, DRDA Dimapur Visasolie Lhounyu, project officer DRDA Alemla Chishi and PD of Mokokchung, BDO Kuhuboto block, S Zheheto and other officials from the department.
