Department of horticulture conducted training on mushroom cultivation on November 18 at Kohima Science College, Jotsoma.
The programme organized by department of botany and zoology, Kohima Science College and attended by more than 60 under graduate students. Resource person, Meyasashi, horticulture officer, mushroom development centre, Dimapur, spoke on the scope and importance of mushroom cultivation and spawn production. He also elucidated that cultivation of oyster mushroom (pleurotus) was the simplest and cost-effective type for Nagas and encouraged students to take up spawn production units for further multiplication and distribution of spawn to the growers.
Resource person, Senti Longchar, assistant horticulture officer, directorate of horticulture spoke on economic of growing mushroom, its nutritional and medicinal value and diseases.
