Atrocity on accused in Tripura jail

Right protection groups in Tripura have demanded inquiry into the alleged atrocity on an under trial accused in Kamalpur jail of Dhalai district.
The accused Nirmal Das informed the court that he had been physically assaulted by constable Shibu Chakraborty in the jail on November 18 and Das was shifted to Kamalpur sub-division hospital yesterday following direction of the court. According to report, Nirmal Das, an employee of the state forest department was arrested on corruption charge on November six and the court subsequently sent him to judicial custody for 14-day and yesterday was the date of the next hearing. The jail authority had intimated the court that Nirmal fell ill and sought extension of his custody but court asked to produce him even if he was ill and finally, he was produced before the court yesterday afternoon, reports UNI.
Nirmal informed the court that he had been physically assaulted by Constable Shibu Chakraborty in the jail. He was suffering from kidney related complication for long time.  The doctors attending on him said today condition of Nirmal was critical and his kidney was affected due to external hit. Tripura Human Rights Organisation demanded inquiry into the incident and ensure best possible treatment for the victim. Earlier, another accused was allegedly killed in police custody in West Tripura.
