KSU suspends proposed ‘dharna’

Kyong students’ union (KSU) has decided to temporarily suspend its proposed ‘dharna’, scheduled for November 24 at Kohima, following “verbal assurance” from the director rural development to look into their demand.
KSU is demanding that department give due preference to local candidates for appointment of MGNREGA staff under Wokha district.
A statement received here from KSU president N. Yiben Humtsoe and general secretary N. Mhabemo Mozhui said the union representatives today, on the invitation of RD director, had a meeting with director along with other department officials.
In the meeting, the director explained the position of the department vis-à-vis KSU demand, the statement said, adding the department, however, could not give any written assurance.
