Economic blockade likely on NH 39, 53

Manipur police Tuesday sounded alert at NH-39 and NH-53, following a threat to impose indefinite economic blockade on these highways effective from Wednesday.The Joint Action Committee on delimitation with its head office at Old Lambulane, Imphal, in its press release issued on November 15 stated that an indefinite economic blockade would be imposed along NH-39 and 53 with effect from November 24 till the tribal people of Manipur are given all political rights enshrined in the constitution of India.
In protest against the alleged political suppression, discrimination, deprivation and intimidation of the indigenous tribal people, the press statement signed by its convener H Benjamin Mate has announced the indefinite blockade, a police source said.
However, no JAC official was available for comment. Alert have been sounded at all security posts and police outposts as members of the JAC with the support of other tribal community residing along the highways were likely to resort to violent activities during their course of agitation.
Meanwhile, the ongoing indefinite Chandel t bandh imposed by the All Tribal Chiefs and Public Grievances Forum was suspended with effect from today till November 30 following an agreement reached with the district administration after a meeting was held with representatives of All Tribal Chiefs and Public Grievances Forum convened by DC Chandel on Monday.
