Civil society and student groups in Dimapur have urged the state government to review the “publicly useful land” at Dimapur, which was reportedly being allotted to private individuals. Against the backdrop of reports of public lands being allotted to individuals and complaints from the public, the civil societies groups including Naga council, Dimapur; Naga Women Hoho, Dimapur and Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU), “as desired by the public of Dimapur”, Tuesday met and adopted several resolutions in connection with the issue. In a memorandum addressed to state chief minister, the signatories said they resolved to apprise the government of the current allotment spree through a memorandum and request the government to review/cancel/relocate allotments. The joint meeting also resolved that areas, suitable for public utility, be preserve for common use and for future generation in general public interest. They further observed that government needed to arrest undue allocation of public land and investigate into the same by constituting a committee.
