Health dept guidelines for Hornbill festival food stalls

Directorate of health & family welfare has, in the interest of public health, informed that it would prohibit sale, exposure for sale of adulterated, misbranded, sub-standard or any unsafe food items including imported food during the Hornbill Festival at Heritage Village (Kisama) and in Kohima town.
Department laid down a set of guidelines for food and tea stall owners to follow, which include- kitchen and eating places to be kept clean and in hygienic condition; ensure that workers wore clean and proper clothing, apron, hand gloves etc; not to allow smoking, chewing tobacco, pan masala, spitting etc., at food preparation and serving places; provide toilets separately and to clean the same regularly with proper disinfection; baked/packaged food items to be properly labeled with date of manufacture, expiry, place of production and ingredients; use separate waste bins for bio-degradable and non-degradable wastes; not to reprocess or sell overnight perishable food items/fatty food etc. Informing this, H&FW secretary and food safety commissioner T. Limsong stated that non-compliance with the notification would be punishable under section 16 of PFA Act.
Meanwhile, public have been requested to check label and quality of product before purchase.
