All AIR and DD transmitters in Nagaland were off the air in Nagaland Wednesday, as the members of Nagaland chapter of The National Federation of Akashvani and Doordarshan Employees (NFADE) went on a two-day nationwide agitation. The 48-hour boycott of duties, which began November 23 at 9 a,m. would continue till November 25, 9 a.m. The striking employees are demanding repeal of “Repeal of Prasar Bharati Act 1990”. “The response is very good and the agitation is going on successfully,” NFADE state unit convener Neizekhotuo Yhome said in a statement. According to Yhome public broadcaster, AIR and DD under Prasar Bharati have become financially unviable. He said that small stations like those in Nagaland were on the verge of collapse. “Some of our stations are having difficulties to pay salaries in time since Prasar Bharati Secretariat is not releasing sufficient funds in time,” the unit convenor said.
