Naga People’s Front (NPF), Wokha division today disclosed that there was illegal and rampant coal mining and trade being carried out in Yimpang/Alikhum area of Wokha. According to a statement received here from NPF Wokha division joint secretary Nyamo Kikon, some unscrupulous and unauthorized traders/supplires from Assam were randomly exploiting the coal reserves. The party stated that many illegal coal transporters were transporting coal at normal rate of royalty without paying any penalty. Further, pointing out that Yimpang/Alikhum area has three exit points, the NPF leader said none of those exit points were controlled by the department of geology and mining nor any check gates set up. “Hence, illegal coal transportation in theses exits is going rampantly,” the NPF party noted, and urged the department responsible to deploy flying squad team to streamline the system in that area. “Otherwise, the state govt. is losing huge revenue from this sector,” Kikon said. The Wokha NPF division insisted that responsible department coordinate with other law enforcing agencies and fix illegal coal mining activities.
