Nagas protected under constn: Rio

Nagas are recognized and protected in black and the white, but some eaders don’t realize this and refuse to recognize that the future lay in preserving Naga identity and instead, were trying to submerge the identity with other cultures said chief minister Neiphiu Rio while addressing the NPF executive meeting held at the party central office here Wednesday.
He said that the NPF was not against any national party but it only recognized and upheld the Naga identity, principle and the Naga cause. He however said the NPF party was only a facilitator for talks. Rio said even the British had given the Nagas protection of their culture and identity including the government of India through ILP and RAP (now PAP).
He said though Nagas have not achieved sovereignty yet they are protected as per the 16-Point Agreement and safe under India.
Rio saluted the pioneers of the NPF party and said that the priority of the party today was for an early, honourable and acceptable solution to the vexed “Indo-Naga” political issue.
He urged party men not to take any credit but give the credit to the people, the Church and tribal hohos. It was all possible because of the cooperation of the people and the different Naga underground groups, he said.
He also lauded the opposition Congress party for their cooperation which subsequently brought together all the sixty legislators irrespective of the political affiliation on Naga political issue. He said that the Nagas have to overcome individualism, tribalism and factional interest and go to the level of ‘Nagaism’.
While pursuing the Naga political issue, Rio also stressed the need to bring development in the state. “People are today hungry and development will keep us alive,” he added.
He expressed happiness that the NPF has been in power for almost eight years and called upon the party men to introspect the success and failure of the DAN government led by the NPF party.
“I feel we’ve achieved lots of thing but I think we’ve rooms for improvements”, he said while reminding the party men that coalition era was here to stay.
He also claimed that the NPF was doing right as a regional party and reiterated that it will maintain its regional character with a national outlook and act globally in a global village today.
On the achievement of the government, Rio claimed that it has Launched many programmes and took so many decisions and asked the party men to tell the people of the party policy and programme.
“You’re the eyes and ears of the public”, he reminded. The chief minister also expressed his desire that party workers take Active part in all the flagship programmes of the government and asked them to fully participate in the forthcoming Hornbill festival and the Agri-expo.
Earlier, NPF President and Urban Development Minister Dr.Shurhozelie Liezietsu in his presidential addressed congratulate the party leaders of the central office, frontal organization, various committees and cells and divisions for their active participation in the party activities and expressed his confidence that the party will continue to perform well the assigned responsibilities which in turn will strengthen the party government.
He also informed that the party have decided not to hold the general convention this year for which the CEC meeting was called. The General convention of the party will be held only in November next year when new team of office bearers will be elected, he added.
On the Naga political issue, he reiterated that the party has committed to work and assist in any possible manner on any approach for a peaceful solution to the “Indo-Naga” political issue and continue with the relentless endeavour to stand against any force to further divide the Nagas. He also thanked the 60 members of the NLA irrespective of their political affiliation for coming together on the Naga political issue and expressed his believe that they can do better to prevail upon the Underground leadership to realize the need of the hour.
He also reiterated the party stand on integration of all contiguous Naga inhabited areas into one administrative unit which it had committed to support and work for. “Integration is our birthright. No one can stop us to talk about it”, he added. Pointing out the fear of slicing away four-fifths of the state of Manipur if Naga integration takes place, he said it has ignited a situation. Further, without naming anybody, he also blamed some Naga leaders of working against the Naga integration by spreading wrong information.
