The United Peoples’ Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) convened a meeting with prominent leaders of the Muslim community of Diphu Town at the central liaison office premises in the presence of OC Diphu Police Station Thursday. The meeting was held to discuss issues that cropped up after the Nov 21 incident at Langkaijan where a Karbi woman was allegedly raped. Both leaders from the UPDS and the Muslim community agreed to work together along with Police to defuse the tension to maintain peace and tranquility in the region. It maybe mentioned that the Nov 21 incident incited communal tension between the local people of Karbi Anglong and the minority Muslim communities living here.
