TUENSANG Nov 26(NPN): Parliamentary Secretary for RD and REPA S. Pangnyu Phom called upon VDB secretaries and chairmen to implement schemes provided by the government in a proper way so as to bring about development in the rural areas.
He stressed on role of village development board in the village level, bearing in mind their responsibility towards uplifting the village community.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest at Tuensang district village development board conference on Wednesday at town hall Tuensang, Pangnyu said VDBs in the state was setup in 1981-82 and has been functioning for nearly 30 years with various scheme provided by state as well as the central government. He also said Tuensang district have been receiving maximum amount of money, but it was the people who failed to utilize funds in a proper way and further questioned the motive behind the lack of development in the area despite having sanctioned money throughout the state.
Pangnyu also urged village authorities not to involve “politics” and “clanism” in RD fund for peaceful implementation of the village fund.
He reiterated that state and central policy was to develop the village level keeping in mind ‘Vision 2020’ as the common aim of competing with the rest of the nation.
The chief guest also highlighted various schemes provided by department including, BRGF, IY Scheme, Micro financing, NREGS etc., where he urged the people to utilize funds in an appropriate way and urged the gathering to be acquainted with the value of banking for recovering loans.
Pangnyu also launched the BRGF helpline for Tuensang district.
In his key note address director rural development, Metsubo Jamir, appealed the participants to impart accurate information to villagers for the welfare of the people.
V. Sakhrie commissioner and secretary rural development, said VDBs held responsibility of carrying out assignment and that the department was there to serve the people with dedication and sincerity to implement the works in the right attitude. Limasenla director SIRD also focused on various scheme provided by state government and urged the people to utilize funds in a proper way. Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Y.L. Jami, deputy commissioner Tuensang and chairman VDB Tuensang.
Kiphire district VDB conference
Kiphire district VDB conference was held at Hopongkyu memorial hall on Thursday with parliamentary Secretary RD and REPA, S. Pangnyu Phom accompanied by all heads of the department. Calling upon the VDB’s, the chief guest said unity and peace should prevail in a place like Kiphire, adding “What is gone is gone, but from now on, you should take your friends as your family”.
Pangnyu said people in the eastern region should encompass socio economic reorganization so that rural economy would be strengthened. He also assured to donate one computer set and furniture to VDB secretary association. He also launched helpline mobile phone and presented it to all VDB’s present.
Delivering the key note address, director RD Metsubo Jamir said equal treatment was given to all VDB’s in Nagaland but lamented that there was dearth of funds in Kiphire village.
He said money was the main factor wherein people migrate to others places in search of a greener pasture, and therefore called upon VDBs to uplift the economy so that people would stay put in the villages. Commissioner and secretary RD V. Sakhrie, deputy commissioner Kiphire, CM Tsanglao and director SIRD Limsenla Jamir also spoke on the occasion.
