Heather Layton an artist and faculty of the University of Rochester, New York would be exhibiting her paintings at Dream Café, Kohima from November 27 to December 2.
The paintings illustrate a series of missing parables, described as a ‘fictional history for the future’.
Heather Layton credits her husband to be her biggest source of support on her first visit to Nagaland. Altogether 14 art pieces will be exhibited.
Interacting with media persons at Café destination, Dimapur on Friday, Heather who was accompanied by her husband said she usually draws inspiration from social issues that a society is inflicted with.
She stated that art is a medium of expression where issues related to society could be profusely addressed through painting, drawing, performance and sculpture. In most of Heather’s paintings, one would notice that she often portrays animals for they represent the past.
The theme for the art exhibition ‘Parables for a Compassionate Revolution’ has been adopted so as to develop a new history that would uplift the society to live in. ‘Naga Art-lovers’ as said by Theja Meru can freely interact with her for further understanding.
The art exhibition would be inaugurated by commissioner and secretary for Tourism and Art and Culture Himato Zhimomi (IFS) on November 27.
Event partners are ‘XL’, Nagaland University and the Heritage, while the event is being organised by Rattle and Hum Music Society.
The exhibition is supported by Univeristy of Rochester, Art and Cultural Council and M.K. Gandhi institute for non- violence.
The paintings would be exhibited at Dream café, Kohima from November 27-December 2, 10am-6pm.
