National Highway- 39, which remained shut for traffic movement for several months owing to landslide, has been opened for all types of traffic “on trial basis” w.e.f. November 20, the Border Road Task Force (BRTF) Friday informed. Stating that the work however would continue at the slide point, a communiqué released by HQ 15 BRTF requested citizens to bear with inconveniences. “In restoring the slide which is the largest in recent memory in the entire state of Nagaland the equipment employed included four dozers, one JS-200, two JCBs, two road rollers, one air compressor and over 150 people,” said EE (civ) R.C. Agasimani. The BRTF attributed the restoration of the NH to its personnel who worked with dedication, even during nights and Sundays, to ensure that the road was restored. Disclosing that delay in restoration of highway was due to unstable nature of the slide, the engineer said: “initial attempts to cut new formation with speed as essence proved to be futile as the new roads also were washed away.” He said it was only after fifth cutting, which was carried out deliberately and with caution, that the road was linked at both ends.
Further, informing that currently surfacing and protective works in progress, the BRTF said some inconveniences or even minor stoppages would be experienced.
In connection with this, the HQ 15 BRTF has requested the commuters to ensure that they exercise extreme caution while crossing the area, since workers would still be engaged in various works.
Meanwhile, the BRTF has expressed gratitude to all the citizens for their understanding and patience. It particularly thanked the locals of Jotsoma village for extending cooperation towards work competition.
