Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio Thursday conveyed warm season’s greeting to the people of Nagaland with a call to recommit “our lives to God our creator, and let Christ be reborn in our hearts.”
The state chief minister, in a Christmas message to the people of Nagaland, noted: “during Christmas season, it is but customary that our homes are decked with Christmas trees, stars and jingling bells. These are befitting preparations for the celebration of the birth of Jesus, the son of God!”
He, however, said that apart from physical display of celebrations, it was also time for all to reflect about whether “we have the inner peace in our hearts to welcome Christ Jesus, who is the Prince of Peace.”
Recalling that in the past there had been constant strife and turmoil in the state, the chief minister, however, thanked God because the situation has improved and peace was beginning to return in the state today.
He also expressed gratitude to Hohos, civil societies, NGOs, Churches and everyone responsible for playing their precious part in the collective efforts to bring peace to “our land.”
Rio also said it was time to forgive and forget the bitter past in a “true Christian spirit” so that peace was reinforced.
“Trusting God, let us then claim and avail the peace which Christ Himself has assured to us when he said ‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. John 14:27’”, the chief minister stated. Referring to the story of ‘Prodigal son’, Rio urged parents to forgive their children, no matter what they have committed, like the father in the story.
Also, like the younger son in the story who realized his mistake, Rio prayed “may our children with changed hearts return home with joy.” “In the name of Immanuel, which means-’God with us’, my wife joins me, as I wish each and everyone a Joyous Christmas and a prosperous New Year, 2011,” Rio stated.
