A brand new Alto car that was hijacked while coming from Dimapur on NH-39 by suspected cadres of Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) at Taphou Kuki village area Senapati district, was recovered on Sunday by 43 Assam Rifles personnel.
Official sources said four suspects hijacked the car which was heading towards Imphal with 11 other new cars Friday evening at around 3 pm, and demanded `1 lakh for the return of the same. The car belonged to Eastern Motor Authorized Dealer. The driver of the car, Keisham Abung of Dimapur Chouteshori Manipuri Colony lodged a complaint with Senapati police, claiming that the four suspects stopped him and forcibly took away the car towards the western side of the village, and later told him to bring Rs.1 lakh and take back the vehicle.
On learning that Senapati police registered a case and was investigating to find the car, 43 Assam Rifles personnel launched an extensive search operation at adjoining villages along the NH-39. The car was recovered later from a bylane of Taphou Kuki village on NH-39, however, none of the miscreants could be apprehended, PRO defense wing Imphal said Sunday.
