The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) is certainly boosting entrepreneurship in the country. The institute, in its five decades, has churned out about 800 to 1000 entrepreneurs. Samir Barua, director, IIM-A, shared this happy news with alumni from all batches on the first day of the Grand Alumni Meet at IIM-A. “While I don’t have any confirmation on this, I’ve learnt that out of the 8,500 fulltime management graduates of IIM-A, about 800 to 1000 have become entrepreneurs. This is certainly something to be happy about,” he said.
Monika Sood, President and CEO, Infrastructure Advisory Division, Feedback Ventures and a PGP 1998 batch graduate, said, “I come here very often to recruit and have seen that the institute now provides a lot of support to its aspiring entrepreneurs unlike what used to happen during our times”.
Echoing Sood’s sentiments, R Balasubramanian, Director of Group Marketing and Mentor, Sankara Eye Hospital, and 1968 batch graduate, said, “I wish I was studying here now with all the infrastructure and the plenty of opportunities.” With the brand IIM-A focusing on fostering the spirit of entrepreneurship, away from the lure of hefty pay packages, it now plans to make a global impact in its golden jubilee year. Barua said that the institute is working towards making a mark in the global arena and getting global recognition.
