Normal life was affected in several parts of Assam in the wake of a 24-hour statewide bandh called by the Anusita Jati Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) Monday. Business establishments and educational institutions remained closed in several parts of the state, including Tinsukia and Dibrugarh, according to UNI report. Fewer number of vehicles were seen plying on roads in most parts, especially on national highways. Bandh supporters also put up blockades on the road to the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi international airport on the outskirts of Guwahati for several hours. The bandh, however, did not have any impact on the main city Guwahati. The AJYCP has called the bandh in support of its charter of demands, including filling-up of vacant teachers’ posts, adherence to the government’s reservation policy and check of spiralling prices essential commodities. The group has warned of more agitations if their demands were not met.
