A local youth body in Medziphema has accused the jawans of 14 NAP (IR), ‘A’ coy, of using excessive force against its leaders.
A statement issued Wednesday by Medziphema town youth organisation (MYTO) president alleged that on the evening of December 27 last, while its members were questioning one person, identified as Thangkhokin, for demanding money from a shop, the personnel of 14 NAP (IR), ‘A’ coy, appeared and began to assault its members without ascertaining the reason.
In the process, the MTYO said its former president was badly assaulted while other members were threatened when tried to “reason out”.
According to youth organisation, prior to the incident, it had consulted with 2 i/c of 14 NAP (IR) about its activities of checking “anti-social element” within Medziphema jurisdiction, wherein both the parties agreed to cooperate with one another. However, on that particular night, despite the MTYO members identified themselves and informed about activities, the jawans paid no heed to their explanation and assaulted its leaders.
“Therefore taking into consideration, the IR jawans are rather creators of situations than controllers,” the MTYO statement said.
It also stated that on the same night the commanding officer of the company had assured to award befitting punishment to those “erring jawans”.
