Naga People’s Organization (NPO), Senapati has issued a “warning notice” to a newspaper, The Sangai Express for its alleged “repeatedly biased and communal reporting … especially on political and social developmental issues related to Senapati District.” NPO president, M. Dili said the decision to issue the notice was taken during its presidential and executive council meeting and approved in the wake of series of public complaints and research/analysis and drawing public opinion on the newspaper.
The NPO said that the editorial column and front pages of the newspaper has “repeatedly published twisted and communal agendas with prejudices mindset” since the initial stages of the publication of the paper and aftermath the May 6, 2010 incident at Mao Gate incident. It questioned the motive and “hidden designs” of The Sangai Express. The NPO asked whether the newspaper was a mouthpiece of certain groups/community campaigning certain issues with journalism or if the ethics of journalism was not applied to the newspaper as it was “backed” by certain groups/community.
The NPO pointed out that the UNC and the Naga Youth Front have earlier reminded and appealed to the state media fraternity of ‘bias reporting’ by some valley based newspapers. It asked the newspaper to immediately restrain from all such “partial and bias reporting.” Failing to address the “Warning Notice” positively, the NPO said it would be constrained to impose disciplinary action against the newspaper without further notice.
