Nihoto Village Council (NVC) on Monday reacted angrily to a news item that appeared in local dailies on January 3, wherein Sumi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu (SKK) has condemned youths from Nihoto village for reportedly assaulting SKK former president Zhevihe Sumi and his wife. NVC chairman Hetozu Chishi, while confirming that Zhevihe and some youths of Nihoto village had indeed got into a scuffle at Diphu river on January 1, however, clarified that members of Kiphire District Sumi Union Dimapur and NVC have compromised on the issue at a joint meeting held January 2. He said the house agreed not to take action against anyone as the incident occurred while both parties were reportedly under the influence of alcohol. The NVC chairman said it was “surprising” that the SKK, instead of taking action against its former president for tarnishing the union’s (SKK) image by “drinking in public places and fighting with kids,” it had condemned the youths of Nihoto village in local dailies without investigating the issue thoroughly. While denouncing the SKK condemnation, NVC further advised the union to do justice to all rather than listening to only one side of the story.
