Kikheto urges students to rebuild society

Additional secretary finance department, Kikheto Y. Sema gave a clarion call to the people of Atoizu range, especially the student community to rebuild the society so as to regain age old societal relations which were void of hatred, jealousy and the like against each other.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of the 37th biennial session of Atoizu Range Students’ Union (ARSU) at Naghuto New village on Tuesday, Kikheto talked about the degrading values which was adversely affecting the progress of the society in almost all fields and called upon the people to rebuild the society.
For this, the chief guest underscored the importance of unity saying, “When there is unity, there is blessing. So let us start rebuilding society from within our family.” Kikheto also exhorted the students to humble themselves when they venture out and remain united wherever they go.
He said the session was seen as a historic and significant one as the Emloto Range Students’ Union (EMRSU) participated for the first time in almost 20 years with ARSU. The two students’ unions which were earlier under one umbrella split, and are now working on modalities to merge under one umbrella. It may be mentioned that Kikheto was one of the main persons working behind the scene and advocating the merger of the two student unions and come together again.
The chief guest was accompanied by a host of dignitaries including Dr. Major Mughavi Sema, Abel Shohe 1st class contractor and NFR member, Kiyelu Yepthomi head master Government High School, Khehoto Chophy JE, Avito Zhimomi JE, Shikato Shohe JE, Lhokuto UDA DSE and a host of GBs, elders and student leaders. The chief guest also unfurled the ARSU flag. During the inaugural function various games and sports and cultural activities were held.
Earlier, on January 3 evening during the introductory session, joint director industries and commerce, Kohima, Kahoto Chishi exhorted the students to change their mindset on how they viewed education.
Kahoto said if the present day students do not change their traditional mindset of studying only Arts, Science and Commerce streams, then they would not be well equipped to compete with the advancing world.
He said these three streams of studies were not the end and further encouraged students on taking up studies in various courses and employment oriented branches. Kahoto discouraged students against seeking employment through politicians and bureaucrats but to achieve their goal through hard work and trust in God. The joint director also released the ARSU biennial magazine at the programme.
The introductory session of the ARSU session saw solo singing competition as well as cultural performances.
Earlier, during the programme, Litsami Kiphimi Kuqhakulu presented singspiration while Asukhuto Town Students Union performed the curtain raiser.
Welcome song was sung by the host village, Naghuto New. Rev Zhutovi Yeptho pastor Naghuto New pronounced the invocation and Shikuto Shohe youth pastor, Atoizu Town said the benediction.
The programme was chaired by ARSU president, Anato Yeptho and recorded by ARSU general secretary, Nokheto Chishi. The ARSU biennial session being held under the theme, “Envisioning excellence” would end on January 6.
