Phenshünyu-Khenyu and Rümensinyu Students’ Union (PKRSU) successfully concluded its three-day golden jubilee celebration with the theme “Forging ahead” on Wednesday.
Parliamentary secretary for horticulture, R. Khing who graced the inaugural function at Phenshünyu village ground on Tuesday in his inaugural address reminded 50 years was a long time and that jubilee was a time to remember the pioneers who had a dream and vision to unite the three villages.
He also stressed the need for introspection and retrospection of the achievement and failure in the last 50 years.
“We’re celebrating what the pioneers have sowed 50 year ago and we’ve seen the achievement they made”, he added.
Pointing out that most of the pioneers have become responsible government officers, public leaders and citizens of the community, Khing asked the students to emulate them by reminding there was a need for academic excellence which required their mind and heart.
“Student life is the most crucial part of life and one needs to devote their whole time and strength in studies”, he said, at the same time, warned it was also the most vulnerable period wherein one was likely to get hooked to drugs and alcohol.
He also reminded all the good and evil things happening around the world by adding “restrain is the golden key for enjoyment”.
Earlier, the parliamentary secretary unveiled the jubilee monolith which was dedicated by Rev. Yhunlo Thong, Pastor Tseminyu old town Baptist Church.
The three-day jubilee celebration started with Alemtemshi Jamir, additional chief secretary and development commissioner as the inaugural guest on January 3 evening where he exhorted the gathering based on the theme of the jubilee.
The celebration consisted of cultural session graced by Kegwanye Lorin, President Rengma Hoho.
The other two sessions was graced by Er. G Keppen, director, industries and commerce and Dr. P.S Lorin, principal, Tetso College, Sovima, Dimapur as special guests while valedictory session was graced by Kenilo Apon, director, state lotteries Nagaland.
