Nagaland State Women Commission (NSWC) on Wednesday informed that the five accused in connection with January 1 attempted rape on two minor girls at Leshemi have been arrested.
According to Nagaland State Women Commission chairperson Sano Vamuzo and member Abeni TCK, the DC Phek when contacted by the commission, confirmed the arrest of the accused, stating that they were now under police custody except for one, who was reportedly under medical treatment as he had been “badly assaulted” by irate public.
Expressing concern that the January 1 attempted rape case at Leshemi village and murder of Lonyiu Therie at Pfutsero on December 6 last were few examples of recent escalation of violence and crime against women and children in the state, a NSWC statement said it
Has become crucial for all right thinking Nagas to contemplate as how “these evil strands” could be removed from the society.
The statement also said NSWC members were constantly in touch with the district administration and NGOs, pursuing the matter. Commission stated it has learnt that Dec 6 murder case has been charge-sheeted and was under the judiciary.
Meanwhile, Nagaland State Women Commission has called upon the investigating agency and judiciary to give more priority and attention in booking and convicting the culprits responsible in the two unfortunate cases without any delay.
