The state force has been raised to replace the Special Security Group (SSG) of the Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) to guard Manipur chief minister Ibobi Singh. Presently Ibobi is being guarded by the personnel of the SSG for the last two years since a series of attacks on the chief minister’s bungalow and repeated open threats on him from the militants. Union Home Ministry provided the SSG for a period of one year in December 2008, which was later extended for another one year. The extended period had expired on December 31 but the force is still discharging their duty Official source said that the state home department in consultant with the police responsible for the chief minister, has raised a dedicated force selected from two battalions of IRB, 5th and 6th IRBs.
