ASTP holds general meeting

The 18th Ao Senso Telongjem Padumpukhuri (ASTP), Dimapur held its annual general meeting under the motto “unity and progress” at the residence of Dr. Toshi Aier, treasurer of ASTP on Saturday.
The occasion was graced by S. Chuba Longkumer BDO Tenning as the main speaker.
While speaking on the theme “Renaissance on culture”, Chuba opined there were two aspects of culture in the contemporary society - cultural concept and spiritual concept which were the two sides of the same coin to make a person edified and dignified. He also termed the two concepts as interlacing of old and new cultures with the latter linked with the advent of Christianity.
While pointing out the tremendous impact of Christianity on culture, the speaker said the advent of Christianity brought remarkable changes in culture through civilization and added some of the cultures became archaic for the modern people.
He expressed regret that several good cultures were vanishing as there was no resurgence programme for culture like that of spiritual revivals.
Chuba further lamented that many in the contemporary neglect their own rich culture and practice foreign cultures thereby ending up in jeopardy.
While narrating about the culture of work practiced by the forefathers, the speaker highlighted that the forefathers even gave feast of merit earned through sweat on their brow. In this regard, he pointed out that the absence of the culture of work in the contemporary society has produced many crooks and tricksters.
Chuba also said due to the absence of work culture among the people, there was depletion in their economy and alarming growth of corrupt people in the society.
The function also included opening prayer by Rev. C. Allem, Pastor of Ao Baptist Church, Padumpukhuri, welcome speech by A. Temjen Ozukum and closing prayer by Er. Chuba Jamir.
