Kidnapped truckers rescued by Assam Rifles

A truck driver and his handyman kidnapped by activists of People Safeguard Group (PSG) were rescued on Saturday late afternoon by troops of Assam Rifles and also nabbed of one of kidnappers.
Police came to know on Monday when troops of 5 Assam Rifles handed over the apprehended activist identified as Loli Mao of Mao Karong village to Imphal police station. Police registered a case against the kidnappers, official source said. The rescued driver and handyman of the truck (MN01-06-6064) had been identified as Ranjit and Ibochouba respectively.
According to sources, troops of Assam Rifles conducted a frisking operation along the NH-39 and rescued the driver and handyman who were found in the vehicle at Karong area along with the four kidnappers. Further, on seeing the security personnel, three of the kidnappers escaped from the moving vehicle.
According to report, the arrested kidnapper had been identified as Loli Mao and the three associates were James Mao, Athestics Mao and Mohakhao Mao, all from Mao Karong area.
Meanwhile, intelligence from Manipur police department had suggested taking the matter of kidnapping of government officials in Senapati district to the Joint Monitoring Group (JMG) of suspension of operation (SoO). They also revealed that the incidents were dominated by the underground groups maintaining ceasefire trust with the government.
It may be mentioned that five officials of the PHED were kidnapped by some undergrounds cadres on November 27 last and released on December 4. While, the forest official S Singsit was detained for a brief period by the underground cadres on December 1 last.
Even though KCP (MC) had claimed responsibility of the kidnapping of the five PHED officials, intelligence investigation pointed out involvement of KRA cadres led by Stephen Kuki and his associates.
Further, intelligence source revealed that the cadres of United Kuki National Liberation Front (UKNLF)-Military Council led by one Thangbou alias Lunkhothang were behind the abduction of Principal Chief Conservator of Forest S Singshit.
The intelligence report also pointed out that one Henry alias Thangboi alias Lunkhothang of UKNFL (MC) and his associates kidnapped S Singshit for ransom.
