AYO launches environment protection campaign

Minister for forest and environment, M. C. Konyak on Monday said environment protection was the need of the hour as the world was being threatened by global warming caused by carbon emission and other heavy human activities adversely affecting the environment.
He was speaking at the launching programme of Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) on environment protection billboard campaign in all Angami regions to create awareness on environmental protection among villages.
While lauding AYO for the initiative, Konyak termed such programme was the need of the hour and pointed out survival of humankind was passing through a critical stage with the effect of global warming and climate change. He also reminded that burning of jungles especially in Angami and Chakhesang regions was a matter of concern.
He however, expressed optimism that initiatives of AYO would go a long way in creating awareness amongst the villagers and hoped other organization and NGOs would follow suit.
He also expressed hope that with such initiative, the state would witness a drastic change with increase in cultivating plants and preservation of various wild habitats.
He revealed that the AYO received support from the forest department through 13th finance commission award and likewise assured other organizations engaged in such activities would also be backed by the department.
AYO, president, Khrielievi Chüsi in his keynote address said Nagas were experiencing a drastic social evolution, felt even in the remotest village with changing times.
While highlighting on the fast depleting flora and fauna in the state, he appealed the people to take steps before it was wiped out completely.
It may be noted that the AYO has taken up responsibility of creating awareness amongst villages in four Angami regions as part of its “Year of Social Networking 2010”, he informed and urged the people to love, preserve and protect natural resources and wildlife.
