Assam ministers, including chief minister Tarun Gogoi, will declare all assets next month in the state Assembly, Congress general secretary and state in-charge Digvijay Singh said here today. ‘’All ministers, including the chief minister, will make public their assets on the floor of the Assembly when the House meets on January 15,’’ Singh told reporters here.
Singh had yesterday indirectly voiced his disapproval over Assam ministers reluctance to declare assets. During a party meet yesterday, he had cited his own example as Madhya Pradesh chief minister for 10 years when he and his ministerial colleagues had annually made public their assets for scrutiny.
Gogoi has been avoiding making public assets of his colleagues, contending that the ministers were not obliged to declare the same. The Opposition has been consistently demanding declaration of ministers assets, but it is yet to be made public. Singh, an AICC general secretary, is on a two-day visit to the state, concluding today, during which he met party leaders and workers as the party prepares to ensure that it retains power for the third successive term in the state Assembly elections early next year.
