Women protest murder in Pfütsero

Scores of women Wednesday staged a protest rally at Pfütsero against the alleged brutal murder of a woman identified as Lonyiu Thira December 6 last by four miscreants including a lady.
Reportedly on the night of December 6, the miscreants entered the house of Mr & Mrs Tusovehu Thira and had seriously assaulted the couple, as a result of which the wife succumbed to injuries December 8 evening in the hospital. The accused have been identified as Azhopo, Tekhe; Neivilekho and Kekungulou w/o Abituo.
Speaking at the protest rally, organized by Pfutsero Town Mothers Association (PTMA), the Chakhesang Mothers’ Association president Kuthozulu Rose vehemently condemned this heinous crime and urged all the right thinking citizens to outrightly condemn such act. She also appealed to all to stand unitedly so as to eliminate all kinds of violence against women.
This dreadful incident occurred during the fortnight observation of International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, launched by Nagaland State Women Commission (NSWC).
Others who spoke at the rally included Pfutsero town advisory board convenor Senokha Losou, GB Zhiengulo Taha and Chikrimi women welfare society president Zhonulu Tunyi.
Meanwhile, the rallyists, spearheaded by PTMA, later submitted a memorandum to ADC Pfutsero demanding immediate action into the incident.
“Whatever might be the reasons behind this senseless crime, the association holds that such crime perpetrated on the defenseless and weaker sex is most barbaric and unthinkable in our modern society,” the memorandum read.
The PTMA memorandum strongly observed that this inhuman crime was a great blow to the sincere efforts and campaign on the elimination of Violence against women in the whole country.
The mothers have demanded immediate arrest of all those responsible and award severe punishment as per the law of the land.
They also demanded the authority responsible to reinforce its security measures at Pfutsero town to ensure safety and protection especially to the weaker section of the society.
