Following the threat to resort by the All Nagaland electricity field workers’ Association (ANEFWA), to resort to agitation if they were not paid salaries before Christmas, state power minister Doshehe Y. Sema Tuesday disclosed that the file for release of payment was under process and therefore, appealed not to resort to any form of agitation.
Talking to media persons here Doshehe said the process would take about one week while explaining that non-payment was not because the government wasn’t going to make payments but due to delay in processing the file. He said there was procedural delay since files of all work charged employees under different departments were also being processed together.
He also explained that the salary component of work charged employees were not under plan budget of respective departments and so the proposals for sanction were made at different periods. The minister lauded the field workers who had to work day and night despite shortage of around 50% and doubling of work load. He said earlier, there used to be three shifts but presently only two shifts.
Further, the minister also agreed that not paying the salary in time to the field workers naturally had a negative impact on the state in terms of revenue collections.
On the poor power supply affecting the spirit of festivity, Doshehe expressed helplessness saying that due to the sudden increase in consumption, the department is not been able to meet the requirement.
