Various civil societies and student bodies on Tuesday condemned the December 8 kidnapping of two Jorhat-based businessmen at Dimapur. Naga Council Dimapur (NCD), in an emailed statement, expressed shock over the involvement of a student body leader in the kidnapping case. Condemning the incident, NCD stated that the incident has damaged the confidence of public, particularly the student community.
All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) strongly condemned the “anti-social and barbaric act” of kidnapping two businessmen for ransom by DNSU speaker Tokato Achumi and his accomplices. The union stated that it was unbecoming of an educated person holding the “office of trust” to tarnish the image of the office and disgracing the students’ community. While appreciating the police for their timely intervention in bringing the culprits to book, ANCSU further called upon the authorities to award befitting punishment to the culprits as per the law of the land.
Meanwhile, Dimapur Sumi Council (DSC) and Dimapur Sumi Students’ Union (DSSU) also condemned the December 8 incident and expressed shock over the involvement of a student leader in the case along with five others. The two organizations, in a separate release, lauded the law enforcing agencies for their timely intervention into the case and further expressed solidarity and support in rooting out such anti social elements from the society. DSC cautioned all its members that it would not tolerate anyone involved in such “inhuman” acts.
