Police has registered case against NSCN (I-M) cadres for hijacking Food Corporation of India (FCI) rice on the NH-53 on Tuesday night, an official source said today.
Basing on the complaint lodged by the Imphal FCI area manager who stated that seven trucks of rice loaded from FCI Jiribam were hijacked by suspected NSCN (I-M) cadres before reaching Noney bridge along NH-53 on December 14 around 4.30 pm, a case was registered.
Meanwhile, NSCN (I-M) at Noney in a statement released by information secretary had admitted the detention of five trucks carrying FCI items and clarified that the trucks were detained as they had been carrying cement in the name of ferrying FCI rice and also claimed that they had returned the items.
The items have been returned back to the FCI yesterday in the presence of Tamenglong SP, Gonglin Thangmei, CO of 26 Assam Rifles colonel Gaurav Chakraborty and officials of Noney police station, the statement added.
However, police claimed that they had been handed over 31 sacks of rice along with 60 cement sacks hijacked by the cadres.
