NER Agri Expo recognizing upcoming entrepreneurs

Visiting the ‘Enterprise Expo’ set up at the NE agri expo site, Dimapur on Saturday, minister for agriculture Chumben Murry commented that packaging of products should be hygienic and attractive. He expressed gladness over the array of products displayed by Naga entrepreneurs and said “we are progressing.”
The ‘Enterprise Expo’ was set up under the state government’s programme of ‘Year of entrepreneurs’ and features upcoming first generation local entrepreneurs.
Nagaland Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (NIDC) officials said ‘Enterprise Expo’ was set up to serve as a platform for the upcoming entrepreneurs. Altogether, 70 units have set up stalls to display various industrial, handicraft and handloom products.
Besides the standard handicrafts and handloom products displayed at such expos, new range of products made by local entrepreneurs such as home-made detergents, candles, fiberglass works and mattress are worth checking out.
Of the 70 units some of the new products made by local entrepreneurs include first of its kind industry in Nagaland, Renomme Coir industries and Kivifoam Industries which specializes in making mattress, sofa and cushions. These products are made using only coconut fiber and foam. Entrepreneur Khehovi Yeptho is one of the first in Nagaland to make mattresses, cushions and bed items. Lotabaza unit, an initiative of Ayangla Imchen is also one such upcoming entrepreneur that locally manufactures detergent, phenyl, candles and liquid dishwasher made with chemical products.
M.C enterprise, Aoyimkum-based unit by M. Chuba Jamir dealing in tiles for commercial purpose and home use drew attention of visitors. A sample of varieties of tiles which are environmental friendly made by the unit was also displayed for the visitors. SJ fiberglass works, a project by local youth Sanen Jamir who first introduced Fibre re-enforced plastic customization of bikes and cars in Nagaland is another unit displayed at the ‘Enterprise Expo.’ Besides three units, the rest of the units are all set up by local entrepreneurs with majority from Dimapur.
NIDC general manager B. Longkumer while briefing media persons earlier said awards in two categories - ‘life time achievement’ and ‘outstanding entrepreneurs’ would be given at the valedictory function on Sunday.
The entrepreneurs would be selected by Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and prominent citizens of Dimapur.
Besides the awards, he said that the department would be recognizing outstanding entrepreneurs and provide them platform at national level.
NIDC assistant manager Temjen Jamir said even though packaging of some local products were not up to the standard, yet, some of the products sold like hot cakes. He insisted that other entrepreneurs take up enterprise on packaging of products.
For some, the ‘enterprise expo’ was an opportunity to showcase their products while for some it was opportunity to make money.
It may be mentioned that the ‘Year of entrepreneurs’ was launched by chief minister Neiphiu Rio on April 30 this year at the Mokokchung Road Show.
