Minister for health and family welfare, Kuzholuzo Nienu (Azo) on Wednesday inaugurated Panso Primary Health Centre (PHC) thereby fulfilling the assurance he gave to the people of Panso area in 2009 to upgrade the health sub-centre to PHC.
Addressing the gathering at Panso local ground after inaugurating the PHC, the health minister also assured the people to fulfill within a month whatever facilities a PHC was entitled to get and told them to use the facilities judiciously.
“This PHC has become your own property, so take ownership,” he told the people of the area.
On the woes of people in rural areas in the health sector, Azo said it was not difficult for the government to appoint health officials who have the requisite qualifications but that the problem lay in those officials who do not go to their places of posting in rural areas.
He said the demand by ENPO for a separate state citing lack of development and various other facilities was also an accumulation of all such problems where the appointed government employees in almost all departments do not remain where they are posted especially if it is a rural place.
Azo said owing to such phenomenon, people in far flung areas feel alienated from the mainstream.
“If all appointed government employees go to their places of posting and execute their duties then people would not be complaining much,” he said.
The health minister appealed the government employees to be loyal and serve the government sincerely wherever they were posted. Azo said the health and family welfare department was taking all necessary steps on how to provide better health facilities to the people of the state.
He said the government was trying to open at least 200-215 health sub-centres during its tenure of five years. The minister highlighted some of the pipeline projects including nursing school and medical college which the government would be fulfilling soon.
Azo assured to provide an ambulance, staff quarter for PHC and appointment of a doctor at Panso PHC very soon. The chief guest also inaugurated a free medical camp at Panso.
Parliamentary secretary for fisheries, relief and rehabilitation, printing and stationery, S. Heno was the guest of honour for the programe. Others who accompanied the health minister included principal director H&FW, Dr. V. Sekhose, director health service, Dr. T. L. Nakhro, ex-MLA Nuzota Swuro and others.
Panso is a Khiamniungan inhabited area with EAC headquarters and around 85 km away from Tuensang town.
