CBI probe NSCN (I-M) activists arrest in Imphal

A Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) team led by dy. SP Ajit Das, arrived Imphal Tuesday to investigate into the case related with the arrest of three NSCN (I-M) activists with arms and ammunitions on November 30 last.
A highly placed official source said that the CBI had come to investigate a case- (FIR no. 290 (11) 2010 under section 400 of IPC, 25 (1-C) Act and 5 Explosive Substances Act) registered with Porompat Police Station, Imphal East district
On November 30, 2010, 4.30 a.m., troops of 17 AR arrested three NSCN (I-M) activists- Kapling Laikhun (24), Ephem AS (30) and Ramreiyo Kapai (29) from Litan area of Ukhrul district of Manipur with one 9 mm pistol, six live rounds, 90 detonators, 2.2 kgs of explosive material and five fuses.
The activists were handed over to Porompat Police station, Imphal East. However, the activists were later handed over to Ukhrul Police station since they were apprehended in Ukhrul district.
The team left for Kolkata Wednesday afternoon with Kapling- one of the activists. Three Manipur police personnel also accompanied the CBI team, the source said.
It maybe mentioned that the investigation comes close on heels of the report of NSCN (I-M) accumulating sophisticated weapons as well as building their cadre strength since 1997 when the peace process started.
