The Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) has released Rimudu Sutnga, a coal exporter to Bangladesh Sunday evening, police official said Wednesday. Sutnga was abducted by two GNLA armed rebels at gunpoint on December 16 last from a coal depot at Warima area in Meghalaya's South Garo Hills district.
"The family members of Rimudu made the confirmation that he was released on Monday at Chockpot in South Garo Hill district," district police chief Mukesh Kumar said. Kumar said further details are awaited. "We have no idea whether any ransom amount was paid to the GNLA rebels in return for his released," the police official.
On November last, the GNLA, a rebel group operating in the Garo Hills area, killed two migrant coal miners and attacked a petrol pump in the district.
