Though termed as “small project", the Local Area Development (LADP) project fund has been bringing smiles to hundreds of families.
Minister for Urban Development and President of NPF, Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu on Friday formally distributed the scholarship 100 selected students under LADP funds at his private residence.
“I don’t’ know how much justice I have done but since the decision for the selection is purely left with party officials from the different sectors and am helpless", said Shurhozielie while talking to media person.
Already more than 600 to 700 students have been so far benefited from the project which is purely aimed at encouraging education of children to bridge the gap of development. The veteran politician also revealed that he had already spent more `40 lakhs since the launching of project soon after 2003 election and had so far help around 700 students.
He also revealed that there were no criteria for selection of recipient but purely based on recommendation of party office bearers from different sectors of eight sectors including 4-sectors in Kohima, one each in Kohima and Chedema village on the basis of financial background of the parents. The leaders of all eight sectors were asked to nominate eight students each while the remaining 20 students were reserved for recommendation of NPF central party officials.
The stipend/scholarship which was aimed at encouraging the students with poor financial background starting from Class A to Class X had so far received so many accolades from the poor parents who cannot afford their children’s fees for their admission and monthly fees.
According to Dr. Shurhozelie, every selected student were given an amount of `5000/- for their admissions and also yearly school fees.
