Militants kidnap IOC official in Imphal

IOC staff in Imphal suspended distribution of petrol and diesel effective from Saturday triggering fuel scarcity in the state again.
Employees of the IOC, Imphal suspended all official works including distribution of petroleum products to the retail outlets in protest against the kidnapping of a senior official by militants.
According to police, armed UGs kidnapped Khwairakpam Ibobi, state level coordinator, IOC, Imphal Friday evening when was coming back home from office. The case came to light when his car was found abandoned at a place along the Imphal-Dimapur section of the NH-39 under Sapermaina police station today.
Meanwhile, police as well as IOC authorities had been suspecting cadres of People Support Group (PSG), a break away group from NSCN (IM) behind the kidnapping of the officer. However none of the outfits had so far owned the responsibility.
Decrying the kidnapping of their senior staff, employees of the IOC stopped distribution of petroleum products resulting to the closure of the most of retail outlets in Imphal.
In another unrelated incident, suspected KCP (MC) cadres set on fire centre machine room of Airtel Tower at Wangoo village in Bishnupur district, a police report said Saturday. According to police report, two armed cadres of KCM (MC)-Lamyanba Khuman came in a motorcycle and set on fire the tower before leaving the place.
Meanwhile, eight houses were damaged when a powerful bomb allegedly planted by militant organisations exploded at Telipati area near here but there was no report of any injury or casualty, official sources said Saturday.
The bomb allegedly planted by unidentified militants at a roadside at Telipati area in Imphal East district exploded at around 10.00 pm last night. In the explosion eight houses were damaged, they said.
This is the second bomb explosion as on Thursday night militants had exploded a bomb at Mongsangei area of Imphal West district.
Security has already been tightened across Manipur in view of the reported boycott call given by militant outfits in the wake of Republic Day celebrations.
All insurgent and militant outfits in Manipur have reportedly called for boycott of Republic Day celebrations All police and security posts have been asked to step up patrolling and frisking of passersby to detect movement of militants.
