Sakshi government high school (SGHS) Longleng for the last 15 years has been functioning with one science teacher, two graduate teachers (arts), two under-graduate teachers and one fourth grade teacher, as a result of which, students have been fairing poorly in their exams. Dismayed over the poor condition of the school, Sakshi Students’ Union (SSU) on November 10 last year conducted surprise checking at the school. The union in this connection questioned the director of school education as to why math and science teachers were transferred from the school without posting or employed a reliever without examining the position of the teachers of the school. According to the union, Sakshi village council and VEC chairman submitted a written complaint, representation to the department in –charge but to no avail. Sakshi Students’ Union president L.M Shamdok has appealed the department of school education to deliver justice to impart quality education to the “backward students” by deputing qualified teachers as per the staffing pattern of the government high school.
