Consumer Society Dimapur District (CSDD) has sought immediate clarification from owners and authorized representatives of approved Fair Price Shops (2010-11) in Dimapur district as to why the CSDD should not approach the chairman of District Consumer Protection Council for recommendation to cancel the license of erring FPS who stood in violation of the government’s Public Distribution System (PDS) Control order.
A press release issued by CSDD general secretary Khekivi Z. Wotsa and press secretary Pradip Sethi alleged that consumers were seriously affected under TPDS as per district allocation sanctioned by the government for the period 2010-11. In this regard, the CSDD, in the interest of protecting consumers’ rights, sought cancellation of the license of erring FPS and to prevent them from applying extension continuation for 2011-12, the release said.
CSDD cautioned if owners and authorized representatives of approved FPS (2010-11) did not clarify as to the anomalies in the distribution system, it would be taking the matter to the District Consumer Forum on the basis of written representation received from consumers as well as CSDD social audit under ‘Right to Food’, to file complaint against erring FPS for prosecution under the provisions of law.
