Eco blockade on State lifted

Economic blockade imposed against Nagaland by seven social organizations of Assam, in protest against alleged unlawful activities by “Naga criminals” along the border, have been lifted with effect from Monday following an assurance from the Nagaland delegation to look into the issue. According to reports some Naga persons, equipped with sharp weapons, had inflicted injuries on a lady, of Namtola area (Assam-Nagaland border), January 17 last, who later succumbed to injuries at hospital.
In a press statement, the Mokokchung district informatics officer (NIC) Er. Temsu Wathi Ao said to defuse the situation a joint meeting was held at Namtola P.S., attended by officials of Assam and Nagaland. In the meeting, Nagaland delegation assured the house that it would institute an impartial inquiry leading to the events so that the culprits identified and booked as per the law. The Nagaland delegation also reportedly sought time till January 31 next.
