HSPDP reiterates demand for bifurcation of M’laya

The Hill State People's Democratic Party (HSPDP) has reiterated its demand for bifurcation of Meghalaya.
"We have resolved to reiterate our demand for a separate Khasi -Jaintia State and under Art. 371 to the Constitution as it has been done for the States of Nagaland and Mizoram," HSPDP general secretary P.B.M Basaiawmoit said.
On the inter-state border dispute with Assam, Basaiawmoit asked the Centre to set up an inter-state boundary commission for the purpose.
The general council of HSPDP which met in Shillong also resolved the joint cadre for secretariat (administrative), police, forest and judicial services be rescind and the long over due separate service cadre for Meghalaya be introduced and implemented.
The party, which has two members in the 60-member House
Assembly stuck to its stand to opposed mining of uranium in the state.
It further also resolved that the culture and customs of the indigenous peoples of the State be upheld and promoted and this includes marriage customs, language, folklores, cultural expressions, knowledge and skills and so on.
