: Amid re-verification process of pre-paid SIM cards following department of telecom (DoT) directive to service providers to authenticate identity of users, Dimapur District Gaon Buras' Association (DDGBA) has expressed resentment over rejection of proof of residence certificates endorsed by its members, by some service providers in Dimapur. According to DDGBA president M.Y. Ngullie and general secretary T. Onen Jamir, many applicants who submitted proof of residence certificates issued by GBs were rejected by service providers.
Stating that GBs were appointed by the government to assist civil administration within territorial local jurisdictions including maintenance of law and order, DDGBA claimed there was no reason why such certificates issued by GBs with regard to proof of actual residence should be “dishonored” and rejected.
In connection with this, DDGBA has urged zonal managers of various pre-paid service providers to "entertain/honour" documents relating to residential proof endorsed by GBs of respective localities for the convenience of applicants.
