Following severe criticisms within the state assembly by the opposition and beyond it, by several prominent leaders besides press statements in the media, the state government has decided to delete road shows from its official engagements.
However, it has now been decided that instead, the government will encourage various tribal hohos and tribal organizations to continue with the road shows by organizing cultural programmes with funding from the government.
It may be pointed out that road shows had practically turned into a different mode with serious questions being raised over the “activities” which became the hallmark.
The Mokokchung DCC had in 2008 slammed the “activities” that took place during the road show’s evening sessions. The party unit had demanded that no road show be held in Mokokchung in view of the happenings that had reportedly taken place in several districts.
The state government bureaucrats including district departments organized the shows with the objective of heralding the achievements of the government to the doorsteps.
The shows were to coincide with the premier festival of the particular district.
