Attired in traditional warrior uniform with modern brass, pipes and drums, the lesser known Village Guard Band (VG Band) from Kiphire stole the limelight in the 62nd Indian Republic Day parade in the state capital here today.
Though, they looked coarse as any Naga warrior, the mesmerizing perfect combination of tunes and a movement which was not inferior to any other such existing bands impressed thousands of spectators gathered at the main Republic Day celebration held at the Secretariat Plaza.
As the band marched past, the parade and concluded their tune in a perfect note, the crowd burst into a thundering applause. On the other hand, adding more colours to this year Republic day celebration, “Divine Connection”, which recently won the prestigious all India MTV Rock contest mesmerized the crowd with the popular Hindi patriotic song ‘Vande Mataram’.
Several other popular local artists including winners of Naga Idols also performed on the occasion which was presented by the Music Task Force.
