PLA leader from Manipur held in Delhi

A 28-year-old self-styled lieutenant’ of a banned Manipuri outfit has been arrested in the national capital, police said on Saturday. Oinam Ibomcha Singh, hailing from Bishnupur of Manipur and member of People’s Liberation Army (PLA), was arrested from Vijay Nagar on Friday on a tip off, deputy commissioner of police (Special Cell) Arun Kampani said here.
The PLA was formed in 1978, comprising ethnic groups such as Nagas, Kukis and Meiteis with the objective of forming an independent Manipur. PLA militants are equipped with sophisticated arms and involved in extortion and killings, police claimed. “Singh joined PLA in 1999-2000 and underwent training in handling of arms and ammunition in Myanmar in the camps of Maoists. His areas of operations were Delhi-Guwahati-Dimapur,” Kampani said. Singh was absconding in many cases in Manipur for attempt to murder and extortion. In one of the case in Imphal West, he and an associate on March 3, 2010 forcibly entered an Airtel tower and damaged equipment amounting to `one lakh.
