: Arunachal Pradesh is thinking about providing incentives to tribal communities in the state who would contribute towards conservation of forest in their respective areas.
During a day-long workshop on preparation of state action plan on climate change organized by the state environment and social forestry department here, chief minister Khandu asked the scientists who would be preparing the action plan, to carve out means to provide incentives to the communities conserving forest in their areas.
"Local communities in the state have always been very conscious about conserving forests. But in order to develop roads, electricity and other infrastructure, sometimes they have been forced to demolish the greenery," Khandu said. He also said Arunachal Pradesh, with 82 %forest cover has been contributing substantially towards checking global warming.
"The forest department has to ensure that the harmful effects of developmental projects are mitigated by adopting appropriate compensatory measures," Khandu added.
