Blankets for refugees by Ghy-based NGO

: A Guwahati-based NGO distributed free blankets to about 200 refugees residing in camps at Suntoli, Tapar pathar and the Chautara area of Kamrup district on Saturday.
Sops for Village Defense Parties: The state government will distribute mobile phones, bicycles, raincoats to the Village Defense Parties (VDPs) of the state. The announcement was made on Saturday.
Ground work for peace conference: Ekta Parishad and Shanti Sadhana Ashram are going to study the variegated culture and potentiality of Assam and the northeast to conduct a ground work for the World Peace Conference scheduled in February, 2012.
Aasu appeal to govt: The All Assam Students’ Union and other teachers’ organizations have urged the government to review its decision of adding the fifth and eight standards to lower primary and higher primary schools respectively from the current academic session in the schools of the state.
BSF men held with timber: Four BSF jawans were apprehended on charges of possessing illegal timber in Srirampur, Kokrajhar near the Assam-West Bengal boundary on Friday. Kachugaon divisional forest officer S Das caught the jawans while carrying saal timber worth several lakhs in a vehicle.
3 youth gunned down in Manipur: At least three persons have been gunned down by suspected rebels at different places in Manipur since Friday night. Tension gripped Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal after a student was shot dead near the institute on Friday. On Saturday morning, a bullet- ridden body of a youth was found near a private school at Canchipur. Another youth was shot dead by suspected rebels in the Kamong area on Saturday.
