Minister for Health & Family Welfare Kuzholuzo Neinu has said promotion of traditional crafts and agro-based activities were viable options side by side with contemporary trade and business which could be economically beneficial for Nagaland.
Interacting with some entrepreneurs along with Thai diplomat Tharadol Thongruang at Dimapur Sunday, the minister said the activities have the potential of touching a larger section of the population and in which people were more familiar traditionally. Thai diplomat Tharadol also said that in his view, Nagaland has a good potential for agro-activities and eco-tourism which could boost the economy, particularly in the far flung areas of the state. He cited this aspect with regard to Thailand.
Neinu also agreed with a suggestion that there was scope for improving the quality of traditional crafts persons by sending a few talented to Thailand to learn about the latest in the art and techniques. He also said other offers from Thailand to train Naga youth in various fields was welcome and should be responded.
He also recalled the offer from Tharadol for sponsoring one Naga student to undergo free post graduate study in any Thai university. Neinu said he would remind chief minister Neiphiu Rio about the offer so that any deserving Naga student could be sent to Thailand. Azo also spoke about the need among thinkers and youth on conceptualizing economic progress through a innovative and holistic approach as much time was wasted in trying to copy the concepts in other parts of the country.
